VA’s EHR modernization project is one of the largest IT contracts in the federal government. The project has stalled under multiple administrations.
The OPM director argued that increasing federal staffing, combined with decreasing the federal contracting workforce, would save costs and improve services.
“We saw legislation that was not included in the latest NDAA. We’re working with Congress to get more refined on right to repair,” Michael Obadal said.

Anthropic is asking a federal judge to temporarily halt the Pentagon’s “unprecedented and stigmatizing” designation of the company as a supply chain risk.
“The federal government is not like any buyer of AI in the commercial setting,” Dan Ramish said. “This would require changes in how things are typically done.”
DoD’s decision to label Anthropic a supply chain risk and GSA’s new draft AI clause are causing confusion among vendors about the administration’s direction.
“We are looking to be able to provide more of a pathway for our federal laboratories to provide innovation,” Paige George said.
